About Cane Run Station

The Cane Run Generating Station is located in Louisville, KY adjacent to the Ohio River. It became became operational in 1954 and burns approximately 1.5 million tons of high sulfur coal a year. In 2011, LG & E announced that they plan to retire the Cane Run facility by 2015. The ash pond at Cane Run has been classified by both the State of Kentucky and the EPA as a high hazard dam.
